Blythe Barracudas - Round Three 2014


Blythe Barracudas are Division 2 champions of the National Arena League West Midlands after a landslide win at the round 3 finals on Saturday night gaining the A team promotion to the Premier Division for next season.

Following 2 closely fought rounds; Blythe lay unbeaten and were in a strong second position in the league table going into the final. The atmosphere at Pingles Leisure Centre was electric as the Blythe A swimmers delivered 14 first places, 12 second places and 10 third places to be crowned champions over rivals Wolverhampton.

The whole team put in phenomenal performances but special mentions must go to 12 year old Charlotte Rigg who triumphed in the 13 and under girls 100 butterfly by 3 seconds, 13 year old Leo Sarigins who was on superb form to take his 13 and under boys 100m breaststroke race 7 seconds ahead of the 2nd place swimmer, 14 year old Victoria Long who was 3 seconds ahead in the 15 and under 100m freestyle and open swimmer Maria Lyri who was victorious in the 100m breaststroke by over 3 seconds.

Blythe Barracudas B were also in action on the same night at their 3rd round fixture in Droitwich, where another exceptional team effort  earned the team 2nd place behind Camp Hill Edwardians and secured a respectable mid table position in the Division 3 league table.  Outstanding swims came from 12 year Erin Molloy who raced home 7 seconds ahead of the 2nd place swimmer in the 13 and under 100m butterfly, 12 year Fraser Blackhurst, a 2 second winner in the 13 and under 100m freestyle, 15 year old Abbie Cooke who took the 15 and under 100m breaststroke race by over 3 seconds and 14 year old Matthew Pagan who triumphed in his 15 and under 100m breaststroke race by an incredible 11 seconds.
