Dunstable - Round Two 2014

Dunstable Swimming Club got their 2nd leg of the National Arena League off to a fantastic start with a first place position in their West Midlands Three East Gala. Held at the Queens Leisure Centre in Derby on 8 November, DSC swimmers were very excited to be travelling as one squad by coach.

Competing against Rykneld, Braunstone, Long Eaton and Dove Valley, DSC was against some tough competition. It is truly fantastic to be able to report on 10 1st place positions, 21 2nd place positions and 10 3rd place positions for the DSC swimmers.  The whole DSC squad worked really hard all night and the dividends really paid off with them earning 1st place.

The atmosphere pool side was electric and certainly the support from DSC parents was lively!  The highlight of the evening came from an awesome swim from Thomas Williams in the U13 freestyle relay.  In 3rd place he overtook other swimmers and won by half a length.  Well done Thomas!  Alex Neeson also managed a new club record in the 100m Butterfly.  This was a fantastic achievement as the record has been held since 2002!

DSC also celebrated some excellent new PB’s with 9 new personal bests coming from the boys, and 6 coming from the girls. Swimmers of the gala went to Oliver Ellison and Thomas Williams – well done boys!

Head Coach Tim Hutton says “The win on Saturday is testament to the vast amount of progress we are making at Dunstable Swimming Club. The club is now the largest it has ever been and the crop of talent that we are growing is enormous. National League is an incredibly competitive tournament which we have not had success in for over six years. Amazing to see a great team spirit with parents and swimmers pulling together to create a winning environment. Well done to all the swimmers and bring on Round Three”

Thank you to all DSC swimmers that competed and did their best, for what was a high profile gala.  Thank you also to the organisers and supporters that made this event so organised but above all tremendously exciting.

DSC looks forward to the next and final round that takes place on 13 December 2014.
