Important message for all West Midlands Clubs

There is to be an AGM of the West Midlands League on Thursday 6th July at 7.30 sharp. It will be held at the Novotel Hotel, Coventry, which is at junction 3 on the M6. Tea and coffee will be available.

Please download the registration form for this year’s competition which should be returned to me as soon as possible but prior to the AGM please. The £34 fee should be sent electronically to the West Midlands League bank account also immediately and at the latest 6th July. No cash or cheques please. When sending the money ensure that the club name is included as a reference and a covering email sent to Monica Brown the League Treasurer, she is copied into this email so that you have her address. The dates are really important to ensure that we can know who will be participating and we can get the draw sorted at the AGM. Obviously if you have two teams in the league, please send two registration forms and £68!

I appreciate that you will not all be able to attend the AGM, but please try and ensure your club is represented. Unfortunately Ian Carden is currently over committed and I am trying to alleviate the pressure on him by convening this meeting. There are over sixty clubs in the league and the post is onerous, so we are looking to find some support on the executive committee. If we can break down the jobs so that they are more manageable that would be a great help. If there is an IT person who could help collating the results, someone to book pools etc etc .

An agenda will be posted on the Leagues website in a few days, but after the AGM formalities are completed we will have an open session so that we can discuss the way forward, so an attendee from your club would be of benefit to the League and your club.

I have also been unable to find email addresses for the following clubs, so if you can let me have a contact that would be appreciated.

Bromsgrove; Dronfield Dolphins; Leighton Buzzard; Pershore; Sutton in Ashfield.

Can you please let me know if there are any provisional bookings for pools for the 2017 dates, 14th October; 11th November; 9th December.

Please contact me by email with any helpful suggestions. Ralph, your Chairman, Monica, your Treasurer and I look forward to your cooperation and seeing you on 6th July.

Meeting documentation is available here

Kindest regards

Ian Mackenzie
National Secretary

Dunstable Round Three 2016

Dunstable Swimming Club got the 3rd and final leg of the National Arena League 2016 off to a great start with a magnificent 2nd place position in their West Midlands Three East Gala.  Held at the Bletchley Leisure Centre on 10th December 2016, DSC swimmers were on fantastic form throughout the gala. On completion of the 3 competitions, Dunstable SC have gained 2nd place overall in the league table which means a long awaited promotion to Division 2, 10 years in the making!!  DSC would like to thank all coaches, swimmers, parents and volunteers for this magnificent achievement. The club is as proud as it could possibly be, ending an epic year of swimming also winning Junior League earlier in the year – well done to everyone involved!
Competing against Flitwick Dolphins, Market Harborough SC, Rykneld SC and Braunstone B, DSC were against some very tough competition.  DSC did not disappoint, and the whole squad worked really hard all night with the relays in particular being tremendously exciting to spectate.

The atmosphere poolside was very much alive, and certainly the support from DSC parents did not disappoint!

The overall gala points at the end of these 3rd rounds were as follows;
1st place – Flitwick Dolphins –  606 gala points over the 3 gala’s in total.
2nd place – Dunstable –  576 gala points over the 3 gala’s in total.
3rd place – Market Harborough SC –  573 gala points over the 3 gala’s in total.
4th place – Braunstone B –  560 gala points over the 3 gala’s in total.
5th place – Rykneld SC –  482 gala points over the 3 gala’s in total.

DSC also celebrated some excellent new PB’s.  Swimmers of the gala went to the whole set of 11 yr old boys that won all their own individual races and all their relays these were; Ryan Roberts, Billy Mead, Finn Meenan, Elliot Kefford and William Hamm. Well done boys on some really terrific performances!

Two short course club records were also broken on Saturday.  This was for the boys 10 yrs 50m backstroke by Elliot Kefford in a time of 36.80 (previously his own record), and to Michael Judd in the men’s open 200IM in a time of 2.17.19 (previously his own record) – Congratulations to you both!

Thank you to all DSC swimmers that competed and did their best, for what is a high profile event.  Thank you also to the organisers and supporters that make this event so well organised with over 11,500 swimmers competing all across the country on the same night!

DSC would also like to give a huge thanks to the Woodside Clinic Dunstable, who very kindly sponsored the swimmers T-shirts.

DSC look forward to competing in the National Arena Swimming League in 2017, but this time entering Division 2! – Congratulations everyone!
