Fareham Nomads - Round Two 2015

Fareham Nomads Swimming Club continued their excellent start of the season with one of the best performances from the squad.

The Club, which is sponsored by Metis Homes, competed against teams from Amersham, Tigers of Jersey, Portsmouth Northsea ‘B’ Team, Didcot Barramundi and Alton & District on Saturday 14 November.

Head coach Stewart Crowe said: “Fareham Nomads swam a total of 22 individual personal best times from a total of 34 events.

“This was one of the best performances from the team in a long time and places us in the top six teams in the Arena League Division One West Gala going into the final round on Saturday 12 December.

“It was particularly great to see the Club come together to support those swimming not only from teammates on the poolside but from family and friends in a sea of red on the balcony too - both making a lot of noise to cheer the Nomads on.”

Of the 50 events the Nomads won 14 events, six of these coming from the men’s open age Group of Matthew Riley, Clive Marquis, Chris Finch, John Molyneaux, Michael Andrews and Jamie O’Donnell.

Chris Finch set the squad up with a win in the 200m Individual Medley with a personal best time of 2.09.61. It was not until event 18 that the second individual win was gained, this time by Jamie O’Donnell in the 100m Butterfly in a time of 57.60. He followed this up with a lifetime best in the 100m Breaststroke recording figures of 1.03.42.

Stewart added: “At the halfway stage of the gala Amersham had a commanding lead of 27 points over second place Tigers with Nomads only four points adrift of the Jersey club.

“Another six points came from Assistant Coach John Molyneaux in the 100m Backstroke (58.77) which narrowed the gap.  Further wins from the open age group men came in the two relay events.”

On a night when there were many outstanding swims, the more notable came from Daisy Ireland with double success in the 13/Under 100m Butterfly (1.11.61) a massive improvement for her of four seconds. She also gained a personal best in the 100m Freestyle gaining another six points in a time of 1.04.40.

Another double victory was supplied from 18 Year old Jessica Davies who swam up to her best gaining victories in the ladies open 100m Backstroke (1.03.39) and the 100m Freestyle (58.88).

Final top places came from Matthew Sullivan 13/U 100m Backstroke (1.10.34 PB), James Baxter 13/Under 100m Freestyle (1.00.96 PB). Both Matthew and James teamed up with Oliver Bulpett and Joe Davies to secure top places in the Medley and Freestyle relay events.
