Fareham Nomads - Round Three 2014

A strong team of Fareham Nomads swimmers made a mighty comeback to place third in its final round of the Arena League.

The squad, ranging from nine to 28-years old, raced against Reading, Portsmouth, Epsom, Littlehampton and Mid Sussex Marlins at Aldershot Garrison swimming pool on Saturday 13 December.

At one stage Fareham Nomads Swimming Club moved down the points table to fifth but with only eight points separating all six clubs the team proved it had fighting spirit to crawl back up to third place.

Head coach Stewart Crowe said: “It was another fine all-round performance with 27 personal best swims recorded from 50 events. This helped the club gain third place overall, a great end to 2014.

“We were fighting relegation in December 2013 so to find ourselves in a mid-table position 12 months on, rather than fighting relegation, is very pleasing.

“There has been much improvement in the overall performances of the swimmers during the past year and although there is still much to do it was a rewarding performance for all at the club.”

After 10 events only one win had been notched up, this came from Jamie O’Donnell who easily won the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.07.49, some four seconds ahead of the second placed swimmer.

A run of four wins came from Sebastian Williams (15/U 100m Butterfly), Jessica Davies (Ladies Open 100m Backstroke), John Molyneaux (Mens Open 100m Backstroke) and Hannah Cooper (Girls 11/U 50m Breaststroke).

Three further wins were achieved by Joe Davies in the 11/U 50m Backstroke in a personal best time of 36.46, Jamie O’Donnell in the Open 100m breaststroke and Joshua Lees in the 15/U 100m Breaststroke.

The only individual second place came from much improved youngster Holly Blake, recording a personal best time in the 11/U 50m Backstroke in 39.22.

Stewart added: “Most inter-club galas are normally dominated by the achievements of the ‘youngsters’ in the respective squads.

“One of the many outstanding performances from the Nomads’ squad came from 28-year old Noemie Peignon, standing in for an age group swimmer. She recorded an impressive 1.09.13 in the Ladies 100m Butterfly.”

The Boys 15/U and Open Relay Squads of Seb Williams, Sam Cooper, Joshua Lees, Matt Riley, Jamie O’Donnell, Chris Finch, Clive Marquis, Dan Cameron and John Molyneaux continued a string of impressive performances gaining 22 points from a possible 24.
