Fareham Nomads - Round Two 2014

Fareham Nomads Swimming Club (FNSC) competed in the 2nd round of the 2014 Arena League competing against teams from Winchester, Maidenhead, Mid Sussex, Alton and City of Guildford C Team.  The club were hopeful of improving upon last year’s finish in which the club narrowly avoided relegation.

The real strength of the current Nomads team is based around a strong group of 15 year old Boys and the senior men’s team.  As in the first round the early events found the club wanting and after 7 events had only secured 12 points from a possible 36.

The first win was an impressive display from 15/Under Freestyle Relay team of Sebastian Williams, Joshua Lees, Sam Cooper and Matthew Riley.  This was quickly followed by the Men’s open medley team of John Molyneaux, Jamie O’Donnell, Dan Cameron and Chris Finch.  After 10 events the club were in 5th position 1 point behind Guildford and 1 ahead of Alton.

A further 13 events passed before the Fareham swimmers posted another victory from Sebastian Williams in the 15/Under 100m Butterfly, he later followed this up with victory in the 100m Freestyle.

The outstanding performers for the club were Jessica Davies and Jamie O’Donnell both claiming double victories.  Jessica recorded lifetime best performances in the 100m Backstroke recording 1.03.94 and become the fastest ever 100m Freestyle swimmer from the club recording a very respectable 57.92.  Jamie followed on from his first round performances, again achieving a double in the 100m Breaststroke and Freestyle events recording a lifetime best in the freestyle of 52.06.

With 15 events remaining the club were in 4th place with only 15 points separating the bottom 3 positions.

Two more individual wins for the Nomads from Joshua Lees and Joe Davies could not help to move the club up a position.  In the end the club were placed 4th, 3 points behind Mid Sussex Marlins.
Although there were some very encouraging performances Head Coach Stewart Crowe commented that there was still much to do after his first year back with the Fareham Club.  He believed that there was a lot of underlying talent at the club but getting this to blossom would require all the swimmers within the club to work hard to fulfil this potential.
