Fareham Nomads Round 3 2013

Fareham Nomads competed in the 3rd and final round of the Arena League on Saturday 14th December, knowing that to retain their position in Division 1 West, the whole team had to perform to their best.

The first few months under the guidance of newly appointed head coach, Stewart Crowe, had not been the easiest. With a different approach to training having to be accepted by many of the swimmers, this is still work in progress, but Saturday’s result did show promise for the future.  The Fareham swimmers gained promotion to the 1st Division last year, but since that time, many swimmers had given up the sport, so there was pressure on those taking their places.

The opening 100m Individual Medley events saw both Lara Barnett and Dan Cameron swim to personal best times, with Dan scoring a maximum 6 points. However, after the first 20 events, the Fareham swimmers were in 3rd place, despite several personal best performances from across all age groups.  First places were very difficult to achieve, although the 15/U boys of Oliver Tubb, Sam Cooper, Joshua Lees and Seb Williams were on good form throughout the evening, gaining 33 points from a possible 36.

At the mid-way point of the gala, a run of 4 wins from Lara Barnett, Seb Williams (15/U 100m Butterfly),Jessica Davies and Daniel Cameron (100m Backstroke), saw the Fareham Team in 2nd place behind gala favourites Chesham, but more importantly, ahead of other relegation threatened clubs Eastleigh, Farnham and Hart.

Only 3 further first places were to be secured by the club, with Kaeden Stander 11/U 50 Freestyle, the 15/U boys doing the double in the relays, with a fine win in the Medley Relay and a great win in the Men’s 6 x 50 Freestyle, the final event of the evening.

Extremely valuable 2nd places were gained by Lara Barnett, Joshua Lees, Georgia Parry, Joe Davies, Seb Williams, Nicole Ainsworth and Joe Riley, to see the club secure a very credible 3rd place behind Chesham, Tilehurst and more importantly, ahead of Eastleigh, Farnham and Hart.

1st Chesham 223, 2nd Tilehurst 199, 3rd Fareham Nomads 187, 4th Eastleigh 175, 5th Farnham 141, Hart 6th 112
