Newbury swimmers promoted to South Premier Division in National Arena Swimming League

Newbury’s swimmers pulled out all the stops to win their third successive National Arena Swimming League fixture in a nail biting climax to this year’s rounds held at the Spectrum Centre in Guildford on Saturday evening.

Drawn in Lane 4 against some of the south’s most prominent clubs, Newbury faced Maidenhead Marlins, Portsmouth Northsea A, Basingstoke, Kingston Royals and Winchester City Penguins, all of whom were fielding their strongest swimmers for the final round. With a string of consistent finishes in the top 3, Newbury took the lead from Portsmouth A just after the halfway point, eventually claiming victory by a single point to finish the evening on 212 points. Coupled with their wins in the previous two rounds and the double points allocation for the final round, Newbury sealed an excellent promotion to the South Premier league for the 2014 season topping the table with 46 points.

Congratulations to the NDSC team Rhona Austin, Rory Butcher, Will Butcher, Ellie Cowan, Fiona Crane, Ellis Dixon, Alex Douglas, Molly Dummett, Ajai Gill, Avani Gill, Olivia Ginja, Suzie Hill, Jordan Hobbs, Ben Hutchins, Holly Hutchins, Jake Jezzard, Imogen Jones, Charlie Knight, James McFadzen, Louise McFadzen, Millie Pope, Zara Ryan, Joe Seward, Oliver Shakespeare, Ryan Sitton, Lizzy Shore, Alex Tomlinson, Fernando Vicaria, Luca Vicaria, Abi Wood and Ruth Wyatt.
