Double Success for Northsea as “A” and “B” teams maintain Promotion Push

Round 2 of the Arena league saw both Portsmouth Northsea “A” and “B” team take 1st place in their respective galas to maintain their chances of promotion.

Northsea “A” faced local rivals Havent & Waterlooville at Waterlooville leisure centre where the atmosphere was electric and Northsea wasted no time in surging into an early lead. 4 wins in the opening 10 races saw them open up a 7 point lead which they never looked like losing. Maidenhead Marlins and Havent & Waterlooville kept the pressure up but Northsea continued to dominate proceedings and recorded 45 top 3 finishes out of the 50 races on the night, winning 21 of those.

The team showed their strength in the relay events with 4 wins from the final 5 events helping to secure a winning margin of 44 points on the night.

At the Mountbatten centre in Portsmouth, a packed crowd created an electric atmosphere that spured Northsea “B” to storm to victory giving them back to back wins which puts them top of the table in their maiden Arena League campaign.

Club captian Sam Redman led the way with victory in the mens open individual medley but dispite picking up 62 points in the first 10 races, Northsea trailed Didcot Barramundi by 4 points.

But 34 top 3 finished from the next 40 races with 14 of those wins, saw Northsea B secure the victory on the night by 30 points and leaves the team in a wonderful position going into next months final round where they will hope to secure promotion to division one.

A truly excellent performance from all ages of the club.
