Newbury off to a flying start in this year’s National Arena Swimming League

Competing in Division One West of the National Arena Swimming League, Newbury made a near flawless start to their 2012-2013 campaign at Woking on Saturday 13th October.

Dorking, Chalfont Otters, Winchester Penguins and Hart provided the opposition, but failed to prevent Newbury swimmers from scooping 16 first places (and 8 second place finishes) in the 34 individual events and 6 firsts (and 7 second place finishes) in the 16 relays!!

Newbury’s five National swimmers set the pace with Jake Jezzard and Loulou McFadzen touching first in the same events (Open 100 IM, Open 100 Fly, Open 100 Back), Zara Ryan (Open 100 Breast, 15/U 100 Fly), James McFadzen (13/U 100 Fly, 13/U 100 Back) and Millie Pope (13/U 100 Fly).

Strong swims by Molly Dummett (11/U 50 Back), Ruth Wyatt (11/U 100 Fly) and Imogen Jones (13/U 100 Back) also earned them top honours, whilst Fiona Crane scored a double with wins in both 13/U 100 Breast and 13/U 100 Free.

In the team events, both the 13/U Girls’ and the 13/U Boys’ triumphed in both Freestyle and Medley relays with the other wins coming from the 11/U Girls Freestyle and the Mens’ Medley relay teams.

After the final event, Newbury finished with 235.5 points well ahead of Winchester Penguins (182 points), Dorking (181 points), Hart (134 points) and Chalfont (132 points). The second round of the league is due to take place on 10th November.
