Colchester - Round Three 2015

The final round of the National Arena Swimming League saw a strong Colchester Squad travel to Harlow Leisure Zone. With excellent swimming clubs from all over the region being represented, it would take an extraordinary effort from head coach Michelle Young and her team.

The first victory of the evening came from the freestyle relay squad of Lucy Morgan, Anita Tien, Charlotte Tree and Sophie Freeman; clocking an excellent time of 2.04.74. This result kick started all the relay squads to score valuable points for the team. Martha Duley, Philippa Davenall, Kaythi Aung and Chloe Rudkin performed superbly in the medley relay securing a solid second place. This spurred the boys relay team of Spencer Prior, Cameron Simpson, Arran Francis and Jack Howlett to clock an impressive 1.52.44 in the medley relay just missing out on victory to Shiverers Swim Club.

It was then time for the individual events and this is where the squad put their marker down as contenders for the overall prize.  The backstroke saw Anita Tien and Nathan Aung secure a first and a second place respectively, both achieving personal bests. Then an impressive 1.07.07 in the 100m back from Olivia Norman gave the team another first place.

As the races continued, the squad gained many valuable points. The final race for the individual swimmers could not have finished any better with Jack Howlett ensuring maximum points in the men’s 100m freestyle with a time of 53.84.

The final result now all depended on the relays with Colchester, Romford and Bishop Stortford battling for overall victory. A great start from Tien, Tree, Morgan and Freeman saw victory in the medley relay. This was backed up by an impressive time of 1.59.45 from the under 13 boy’s medley relay team of, Christian Tilley, William Pestell, Ben Hardy and Alex Williamson. The culmination of the evening was the ladies and men’s freestyle relay, both squads achieved important 3rd places and valuable points for the team.

This is a team event and all swimmers results count towards the final total. Other swimmers to score valuable points were, Ross Jordan, Sam Bentley, Kai Cheng, Ana Victoria Anderson, Abbie McCarthy, Katie White, Rory Bennett, Alexander Tinnon and Jamie Coles.
