Teddington produce a storming second round performance in the National Arena Swimming League

Saturday 9th November saw a forty strong squad from Teddington Swimming Club travel to Harlow for the second round draw of the London Premier division hosted by City of St Albans Swimming Club.

Teddington claimed an awesome second place, pipped to the top spot by Hatfield, who were National runners up last season. By the end of the night a mere 5 points separated the two clubs. Such a close second place was a tremendous achievement for the Teddington swimmers and ranks as a best ever result against a formidable opponent.

The second round positions and point totals on the night were:

Teddington have qualified to swim in the London Premier division ‘A’ final on 14th December at Basildon Sporting Village.

Teddington notched up an impressive 13 wins, 12 second and 10 third places with some dominant individual and relay performances. And fast swimming by all!

Individual race winners were, in swim order, Jacob Patterson (11) in the 50m Backstroke (35.20), Alice Smail (13) in the 100m Backstroke (1.10.66), Sophie Fussell (11) in the 50m Breaststroke (36.99), Thalia Poaros (12) in the 100m Butterfly (1.07.67), Anna Smail (11) in the 50m Freestyle (29.73) and Squad Coach Gina Heyn in the 100m Breaststroke (1.11.42).
There were seven relay team first places. The 9-11yr girls’ team of Sophie Fussell, Amelia Mackie, Jessica Mayer and Anna Smail were outstanding winners of both the 4x50m freestyle (2.06.56) and the 4x50m medley (2.25.48). Also showing pace were the 9-11yr boys’ 4x 50m freestyle team of Matthew Hall, Eddie Hunt, Max Johnson and Jacob Patterson racing to victory in a time 2.07.46. The 13/U girls’ 4x50m medley team of Sophie Johnson, Alice Patterson, Thalia Poaros and Alice Smail repeated their first round triumph with a faster winning time of 2.10.40. They then went one better than in the first round to win the 4x50m freestyle also in an improved time of 1.58.82. They were Sophie Johnson, Alice Patterson, Alice Smail and Emma Green.

Second places were scooped by Anna Smail (11) in the 50m Backstroke (35.83), Matthew Hall (11) in the 50m Butterfly (37.36) and 50m Freestyle (32.95), Toby Tolson (13) in the 100m Backstroke (1.10.38) and 100m Butterfly (1.09.02), Jacob Patterson (11) in the 50m Breaststroke (43.76), Emma Green in the 100m Freestyle (1.03.52), Brandon Sayers (15) in the 100m Breaststroke (1.10.39) and James Adams (21) in the 100m Freestyle (52.88). The Ladies Open Medley team of Eliza Cottington, Gina Heyn, Clara Nutting and Molly Savill were second in a time of 1.59.93. The 9-11yr boys’medley team of Jacob Patterson, James Benson, Matthew Hall and Max Johnson were an impressive second in a time of 2.30.56 and the 13/U boys’ freestyle team of Toby Tolson, Oscar Aydin, Elias Petrenko and Jacob Patterson achieved second in a time of 1.59.58.

The evening was rounded off in magnificent style with Teddington taking top spot in both the Ladies’ and Mens’ canons. The Ladies winning team were Zoe Bozzard-Hill, Clara Nutting, Molly Savill, Natalie Redmayne, Josie Savill and Gina Heyn in a time of 2.44.87. The Mens’ team were James Adams, Harry Olding, Leon Smith, Glenn Olding, Oliver Hall and Daniel Edmiston who ended the evening on a high with a winning time of 2.27.02.

The entire squad swam out of their skins and put in 100 per cent effort to produce a historic result for their club. Well done to all!
