A solid second round by Teddington secures a place in the London ‘A’ final of the National Arena Swimming League


The second round of the 2012-2013 National Arena Swimming League for London Region Division One took place on Saturday 10th November. The second round draw was hosted by Hatfield Swimming Club.

Competition was fierce but Teddington gave some gutsy performances to secure a fourth place out of the eight competing Clubs. The final positions and point totals on the night were:
1st Hatfield 318
2nd Team Ipswich 285
3rd Romford 270
4th Teddington 231
5th Watford 203
6th Enfield 191
7th Wandsworth 156
8th Sutton & Cheam 141

After two rounds Teddington have secured a place in the London Region 'A' final.

In a re-run of the first round both Thalia Poaros and Gina Heyn led from the front to claim individual victories. Eleven year old Thalia Poaros looked dominant winning the 10-11yr girls 50m butterfly in a personal best time of 32.94seconds. Gina Heyn was impressive as she raced to first place in the Ladies Open 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.11.49.

The Ladies Open 4x50m medley and the Ladies Open 6 x 50m freestyle relay squads also repeated their first round victories. The Ladies Open medley team was Clara Nutting (backstroke), Gina Heyn (breaststroke), Hannah Rogers (butterfly) and Molly Savill (freestyle). Their winning time was 2.00.07

The winning Ladies Open 6 x 50m freestyle relay team were Hannah Rogers, Clara Nutting, Zoe Bozzard-Hill, Molly Savill, Emma Uren and Gina Heyn in a time of 2.43.45.

Teddington also scooped three second places as follow; Thalia Poaros in the 10-11yr girls 50m breaststroke (40.50), 9-11year girls 4 x 50m medley relay (Megan Read, Anna Smail, Thalia Poaros, Tanya Ferguson) and the Mens Open 6 x 50m freestyle relay (James Adams, Leon Smith, James Stanhope, Ed Sinclair, Dave Currant, Sid Howes)

Teddington battled for the third spot in eight events; Elias Petrenko in the 10-11yr boys 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke, Tanya Ferguson in the 10-11yr girls 50m freestyle, James Stanhope in the Mens Open 100m butterfly, Leon Smith in the Mens Open 100m breaststroke, Oliver Hall in the 15 & U boys 100m breaststroke, the Mens Open 4x50m medley relay team and the 15&U Boys 4x50m freestyle relay team.

All squad members helped boost the points score on the night in both relay and individual events and have contributed towards a place in the final.

The London Region 'A' final will take place on Saturday 8th December in Basildon.
