Teddington register a notable opening performance in the National Arena Swimming League.


The first round of the 2012-2013 National Arena Swimming League for London Region Division One took place on Saturday 13th October. Teddington Swimming Club’s first round draw was hosted by Hatfield Swimming Club.

Teddington secured a solid third place out of the eight competing Clubs. They were always going to face strong competition from Hatfield and Camden Swiss Cottage who were 2011 finalists and B finalists respectively.

Teddington swimmers got off to a storming start; second only to Hatfield. In the final third of the competition Camden Swiss just managed to pull ahead of Teddington by a mere seven points.

The final positions and point totals were:

Individual swimmers who notched up first places for Teddington, gaining maximum points for their club were Thalia Poaros in the 10-11 year girls 50m butterfly in 33.75seconds and new Teddington coach Gina Heyn. Gina led by example taking victory in the Ladies Open 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.10.47.

Thalia and Gina also made strong contributions in the relays and helped their squads to secure some impressive results.

Teddington’s winning Ladies Open Medley team was Clara Nutting (backstroke), Gina Heyn (breaststroke), Hannah Rogers (butterfly) and Molly Savill (freestyle). Their winning time was 1.58.71

Teddington also clinched an exciting victory in the penultimate race of the meet in the Ladies Open 6 x 50m freestyle relay. With rivals Hatfield closing down Teddington’s lead, Gina Heyn went into the anchor leg almost neck and neck. She held off Hatfield to claim the win for Teddington and boost their overall point score. The winning Ladies Open relay team were Hannah Rogers, Clara Nutting, Zoe Bozzard-Hill, Molly Savill, Natalie Redmayne and Gina Heyn.
