Harpenden Round 1 2017

Harpenden Swimming Club (HSC) has kicked off our 2017 campaign and completed in Round One in the Arena League. This was the first opportunity to wear the new Arnold Laver sponsored kit:
The team finished 8th on the night but swam really well. We were 12 people down on the original call up of 32 so it was a massive challenge for those that turned out to step up to the level of competition and the fantastic commitment was demonstrated by the 18 PBs from the 34 individual races.

The U16 boys did particularly well and specific mention should be made to
Ed Campfield who was first in the 100m Backstroke, Yannik Wilson who was 2nd in 100m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke, and the Boys U16 200m Freestyle relay team (Ed Campfield, Freddie Arbuthnott, Samrahn Sandhu, Yannik Wilson), and U16 Boys 200m Medley relay team (Ed Campfield, Yannik Willson, Freddie Arbuthnott, Samrahn Sandhu)

Notwithstanding the team’s great swimming, it was disappointing to finish last on the day but you can't ask more of your swimmers than that they swim a PB. It is early in the season and everyone should take heart from their performances and with a full strength team for Round Two we can really focus on getting the results which reflect our ability and ensuring that we, as a minimum, remain in the division.

With all the results in, HSC is sat in 15th position after Round One. Given the strength of the team that we could field, this is a great achievement and we should be looking to move further up after the next round.
